Aluminium recycling process

Aluminium recycling involves a series of processes aimed at recovering and reusing aluminium products to create new ones. Recycling aluminium is extremely advantageous as it allows you to save energy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, preserve natural resources and minimize the environmental impact associated with mining and the extraction of new aluminium from the raw material. The process typically includes the following steps:

  • Collection: aluminium foils and containers are collected from various sources and sorted to be separated from other materials.
  • Sorting: collected aluminium products are sorted based on the composition and shape of the alloy in the recycling facilities.
  • Shredding: once selected, items are cleaned and shredded into smaller pieces. This step helps prepare the material for further processing.
  • Melting: shredded pieces of aluminium are heated in a furnace to melt them. The molten aluminium is purified to remove impurities.
  • Purification: molten aluminium undergoes purification to eliminate contaminants and improve its quality.
  • Stamping or forming: Purified molten aluminium can be poured into ingots or molds to create new aluminum products. It can also be used in various manufacturing processes, such as extrusion, rolling or stamping, to produce aluminium sheets, bars or other shapes required for specific applications.
  • Manufacturing: machined aluminium is used by manufacturers to produce a wide range of products, including beverage cans, automotive parts, building materials, electronics and more.

How many times can aluminium be recycled?

Aluminium can be recycled infinitely and infinite times, without losing any of its properties. This feature is one of its most significant advantages in terms of sustainability, reduction of environmental impact and conservation of resources. This peculiarity makes aluminium a material of great value in the recycling sector.
