Traditional Oven – Italian Donuts Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 cups 0f white flour
  • 2.5 oz of butter at room temperature
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp of sugar
  • 0.4 oz fresh brewer’s yeast
  • ½ grated orange peel
  • ½ grated lemon peel
  • Salt

Directions

Mix the two flours, the eggs, the milk, the brewer’s yeast and the grated citrus fruits using the flat beater. When the dough starts to detach from the walls of the container, replace the flat beater with the spiral dough hook. Then, add a pinch of salt and the butter cut into cubes. Once you have obtained a homogeneous dough, form a loaf with your hands and place it in a bowl lightly greased with oil. Seal with cling film and let rise for at least two hours in the oven with the light on.

After two hours, divide the dough into many balls of about 2 oz each. Roll out each dough lengthwise to form cords, close them into a circle and overlap the final ends to create donuts. Place on a sheet of baking paper, cover with a floured cloth and let rise for another 40 minutes.

Now, you have two options: fry each donut in boiling oil or place them in our aluminium foil container and bake in a preheated oven at 356° F for 20 minutes. Once cooked, sprinkle with sugar.
